November is life certificate month for pensioners in India. Central Government pensioners submit their annual life certificate between 1 November and 30 November so that pension continues from December. Pensioners aged 80 and above can submit earlier, from 1 October. The certificate is valid until 30 November of the following year. If it is not submitted in time, pension for December and later months is held until the certificate is accepted, and then paid with arrears. EPFO pensioners under the Employees' Pension Scheme follow a different rule: their life certificate stays valid for 12 months from the day it was submitted.

Many families now help a parent submit the Digital Life Certificate, called Jeevan Pramaan, using Aadhaar face or fingerprint authentication on a phone, at the bank, or through India Post Payments Bank doorstep service. The certificate itself is generated online. But the paperwork around it still matters: the PPO number, bank details, a copy of the pension order, and sometimes a physical certificate form signed by a bank officer. This post shows how to keep those papers ready as clean PDFs on your Windows PC so the process takes minutes, not a second visit.

What to keep ready before you start

For Jeevan Pramaan you usually need the Aadhaar number or Virtual ID, the PPO (Pension Payment Order) number, an active mobile number, the pension account details, and the names of the pension-sanctioning and pension-disbursing authorities. Keep these in one place. A single PDF called "Pension papers - Father - 2026" with the PPO, the bank passbook front page, and the latest pension slip is easier than searching drawers on the day.

Scan or photograph each page in good light. On the PC, put the pages in order, remove blank backs, and check that the PPO number is readable. If a page came out sideways, rotate it. If the file is large, compress it so it is easy to share with the family member who is helping.

If your office asks for a physical form

Some departments still ask pensioners to submit a printed life certificate form, signed by a bank officer or an authorised official, especially for family pensioners or for pensioners living abroad, where an Indian mission signs it. If you receive the form as a PDF, you can fill the typed fields on your PC before printing: name, PPO number, and address. Do not type in the signature or the officer's section. Those must be signed in person. Print, take it to the bank, and keep a scanned copy of the signed form after submission.

When you scan the signed form, check the seal and the date are clear. A blurred seal is the most common reason a form is sent back. Save it as one PDF with a plain name, for example "Life certificate 2026 signed.pdf", next to the pension papers.

After you submit: keep the proof

Generating a Digital Life Certificate does not always mean the bank has accepted it. After submission, the pensioner receives a Pramaan ID by SMS. Note it down. You can check the certificate on the official Jeevan Pramaan portal and download it. Save that download as a PDF in the same folder. If the bank later says it has no record, you have the Pramaan ID, the date, and the certificate on your PC.

If the certificate is rejected, the bank or the pension-disbursing authority explains why. Common reasons are a mismatch in name or account details. Keep the pension papers PDF handy so you can compare details quickly rather than visiting twice.

Keep the files private and local

Pension papers include Aadhaar details, bank accounts, and PPO numbers. These are exactly the documents you should not upload to a random online PDF converter to merge or compress. Do that work on your own PC. Pdf Buddy is a Windows PDF editor that merges, splits, rotates, compresses, and fills PDFs locally. The files never leave your computer for those tasks. When you need to share a copy with a sibling, send the compressed PDF directly, and remove pages they do not need.

A simple yearly routine

Set a reminder for the last week of October. Open the pension folder, check the papers are current, and update the pension slip page. In November, submit the certificate early in the month rather than near the 30th, when banks are busy. Save the Pramaan ID and the downloaded certificate. Next October, the folder is ready again.

Questions people actually ask

My father is 82. Can he submit now? Yes. Pensioners aged 80 and above can submit from 1 October. The certificate stays valid until 30 November of the next year.

What if we miss 30 November? Pension from December is held until the certificate is accepted. Once it is updated, the pending pension is paid with arrears on the next payment. Submit as soon as possible and keep proof.

Is the life certificate a PDF I create myself? No. The Digital Life Certificate is generated through Jeevan Pramaan after Aadhaar authentication, or a physical form is signed by an authorised officer. Your PDFs are the supporting papers and the downloaded proof.
